"Called to be friends"

As Carmelite nuns, we centre our lives around a relationship with Christ and look to the Virgin Mary, who models for us the journey of faith and love. We take time to nurture this relationship through prayer, silence and solitude and live together in a community of co-operation and mutual support.

Each day, we spend time engaged in ‘lectio divina’ - listening to the Word of God and relating it to our experience in daily life. We structure our day to facilitate our journey into the mystery of prayer and celebrate the Eucharist each morning as a community, raising our hearts and voices together in Praise of God.

Work forms an important part of our day and we believe it holds true that ‘God is to be found among the pots and the pans’. Through our work we seek to support ourselves and share our resources in a spirit of solidarity with all our brothers and sisters. This work is varied and includes making altar-breads, printing, or crafts such as candle-making and needlework.

The Carmelites are a worldwide order. This means that we can support each other and work together in our needs and endeavours around the globe.

Through our Carmelite way of life, we seek to join with all Christianity to proclaim:

Jesus Christ is Lord.
In Him the brokeness of our human condition and the glory of God meet.
He is our reconciliation, our peace, our hope of future glory.
With Mary, conscious of our powerlessness and vulnerability we dare to trust Him enough to stake our very lives on the reality of His Gospel.
